We often associate leadership with position; but it has nothing to do with position. Leadership is merely the ability to influence self, individuals, teams and/or organizations toward a common goal or task. More importantly, it is the desire, willingness, and commitment to take the risk. Regardless of position, we are all leaders within our respective sphere of influence. That said, leadership of others begins first with personal leadership. Personal Leadership: The Role of Mindfulness in a Time of Crisis by Ryan Heinl at DDI is a great quick read to remind us of the importance of “being here now,” maintaining balance (spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically), and exercising leadership (self and others); particularly given current events.
